Hello everyone! My name is Vanessa Mari and I am the president of NVTESOL. I have been working very hard to make sure this organization is active and meets the needs of all educators.
I am currently working as an Assistant Professor of TESL at Nevada State College. I teach all of the TESOL required courses for endorsement. Before moving to Henderson, I worked in Peru as an English language fellow. During this time I offered professional development to English teachers and taught English at the University of Piura.
I completed my Ph.D at the University of Texas San Antonio in the department of Bicultural and Bilingual studies. This was a great learning opportunity as I had the privilege of visiting and working with teachers in multiple bilingual schools. I have also worked as an English teacher in Puerto Rico (where I was born and raised!). My past teaching experiences have been very gratifying and that is why I want to collaborate with other educators who are also growing as teachers.
I am looking forward to meeting you all soon!
I'm very glad to have a TESOL organization here in Nevada, and appreciate your work in getting it going. I belonged to AsiaTEFL when I lived abroad, and always enjoyed our annual conventions.
Vanessa, thank you for your hard work at getting this organization up and running and keeping it going through the pandemic. It has not been easy. Your leadership is invaluable and I am grateful to be working with you!
