My name is Machelle Rasmussen. I am a foreign language teacher. While serving in the military I learned Arabic, Serbian-Croatian, and Chinese at the Defense Language Institute. I love languages and think it is the best way to learn about the world. I have traveled to China to teach English. I love working with ELL students and I want more bilingual opportunities in Nevada. I also want the opportunity for native English-speaking students to learn foreign languages in a dual immersion classroom. It is time for Nevada to step into the 21st century and advance the opportunities of language learning that are offered in other states and countries around the world!
Here's a picture of me in China. The group picture below is a few of the teachers who taught in the English program.

I loved teaching English abroad too! I was an English language Fellow in Peru and absolutely loved the experience.
Welcome Machelle! I'm so glad to have you as a part of NVTESOL. Thank you for jumping right in, sharing your expertise and engaging in conversation with others. My hope is that we can inspire others to converse, share resources/knowledge and make connections!
I was in the Air Force for a number of years. I heard about the Defense Language Institute in Monterrey after I joined up, and initially wanted to apply to go there. I heard, however, that it's one of the toughest career fields and that the failure rate is very high. Kudos for having survived!
