Established under Assembly Bill 335 during the 2025–2026 interim, the English Learner Advisory Council (ELAC) serves as a key advisory body tasked with studying statewide policies and practices to advance language acquisition, development, and literacy.
2027 Legislative Authority: ELAC is authorized to draft and prefile one dedicated legislative measure for the 2027 regular session of the Nevada Legislature.
Upcoming Interim Report: The council will culminate its research by submitting a comprehensive report of findings and policy recommendations to the Legislative Counsel Bureau by October 31, 2026.
Comprehensive Statewide Input: Council members represent all levels of Nevada's education ecosystem, including classroom teachers, school and district administrators, higher education representatives, NDE staff, and policy experts.
Educators and advocates can follow meeting schedules, access archived materials, and view policy reports directly on the Nevada Department of Education ELAC Portal.
